SEVIER COUNTY, Utah, May 28, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- Sheriff's officials were called in late on May 16 after a man walking his dog on the shore of Fish Lake discovered his pet had found a shoe containing what appeared to be a foot bone.
"Due to the late hour, search and rescue was called out early in the morning to search the shoreline and the water in the area," says a news release issued by Sevier County Sheriff Nathan J. Curtis. "No other evidence was found to indicate where the foot came from.
"Detectives began looking into a case of a missing individual from September of 1997," the release says.
The missing man was 44-year-old David M. White, from Washington City. His boat was found in the late, engine running, without the avid fisherman. A search of the lake, which is more than 120 feet deep at some points, was unsuccessful.
The Utah Sheriff's Fishlake Search and Rescue Conference is scheduled to be heldĀ June 6 and 7, and "as part of the conference we plan to conduct a search for the missing individual," Curtis' statement says.
"We have been able to find a child of the missing person and have sent in a DNA sample for comparison. At this time, we have no further information about a missing person suspected to be in the area.
"We will update information as we get it."
Gephardt Daily will share additional facts as they are confirmed.
