TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, July 20, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man wanted in connection with a domestic violence call was taken into police custody Saturday after holding SWAT officers at bay for hours at a Taylorsville apartment complex.

Unified Police officers were first called to the Calloway Apartments, at 4100 S. 1300 West, after a domestic violence complaint was filed by someone at a local emergency room.

When police arrived at about 2:30 p.m., they found the suspect, identified as Jonathan Smith, 31, holed up in one of the units.

Police say Smith refused to cooperate with arriving officers and told police he would not surrender peacefully. He also allegedly implied he had weapon.

After talking to Smith intermittently for three hours, police made the decision to enter the apartment. Minutes later Smith was in custody.

Smith was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, obstruction of justice and propelling an object at a police officer.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
