SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a man who fell 10 stories to his death in downtown Salt Lake City Monday.

The man has been identified as Jordan Taggart, 39, said the Salt Lake City Police Department in a news release.

The SLCPD said the fall, which police are now calling a suicide, happened at approximately 4:50 p.m. at 135 S. Regent Street, which is just north of the Gallivan Center.

Witnesses saw a male walking on the top of the parking garage, police said. A few minutes later, the man stepped off the edge and fell to the ground from the 10 story building and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

SLCPD Detective Cody Lougy said police received a call at about 5 p.m. from a woman who said she heard a loud sound, possibly like someone falling, so she looked out of her office window. When police arrived, they discovered Taggart had fallen “from the very top of the parking structure, about 10 stories.”

Lougy told Gephardt Daily the deceased man wasn’t a construction worker and doesn’t appear to be homeless or to work in the area near where he fell.

Gephardt Daily does not usually report on suicides unless there is some impact to the public, such as that the incident occurred in a public place.
