SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 8, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- A hiker who twisted an ankle badly on a trail near Salt Lake City's upper Avenues was assisted by crews from the Utah Department of Public Safety and from the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
The call for help came in at about 10:45 a.m., SLCFD Capt. Brandt Hancuff told Gephardt Daily.
"We had an individual up there that fell down and injured their ankle, and so they needed some assistance getting down," Hancuff said.
"So, due to their location, we had to utilize the Department of Public Safety helicopter. So we were able to get them to land up there, get them into the helicopter, and then they brought them down."
The operation took about an hour, Hancuff said.
The hiker "ended up signing a release for medical assistance and went in their own vehicle to get help from a doctor," he said.
With the nice spring weather, there is an increase in calls from hikers in need of assistance, Hancuff said.
"We've had a number of these in the past week."
