MIDVALE, Utah, July 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A dramatic, hours-long SWAT standoff involving a federal fugitive came to a peaceful end in Midvale early Wednesday evening.

Unified Police Sgt. Amyee Race confirmed to Gephardt Daily that the fugitive, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was under arrest.

“The suspect is in custody, no one was injured, the roads are cleared now, people can start returning back,” she said.

Race referred all other questions, including why the wanted suspect was being sought, to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The situation began to unfold about 2:30 p.m., when, according to unconfirmed reports, the suspect was trailed by police from multiple agencies before entering a rented home after 4 p.m. near 7400 South and Main Street.

When the suspect refused to surrender, police from multiple agencies, including Unified PD and the UPD SWAT Team took up positions outside the residence while occupants of nearby buildings were evacuated and a number of roads blocked to traffic.

A short while later, police bullhorns could be heard as negotiators told the suspect to comply with their orders and to “Come out with his hands up.”

When the suspect appeared to ignore police commands, at least two blasts, several minutes apart, rumbled through the neighborhood.

Minutes after that, at 6:24 p.m., the suspect exited the house and surrendered to awaiting officers.

“In essence, luckily, everyone is safe,” Race told Gephardt Daily,” and that’s the biggest priority for all of us.”
