OGDEN, Utah, March 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was in the hospital Saturday night after driving his vehicle over a curb and crashing into the fountain in front of Ogden’s Union Station at Historic 25th Street and Wall Avenue.
Ogden Police Lt. Jake Sube said although the accident is still under investigation, witnesses told police the silver 2015 SUV was westbound on 25th Street when it ran the red light at the T-intersection where 25th Street ends at Wall Avenue. The vehicle continued across Wall, jumped the curb and sidewalk onto Union Station’s property and finally stopped when it crashed into the side of the fountain.
“It looks like (the SUV) bounced off the water fountain,” Sube said. “It’s really surprising the fountain wasn’t damaged.”
Sube said the approximately 31-year-old driver was the only person in the vehicle and may have hit his head against the windshield. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
No information was available regarding the man’s condition, but Sube said his injuries weren’t life-threatening and he reportedly was speaking after the crash.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in an area that has a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, especially on a Saturday night.
Sube said police will be looking into the possibility of driver impairment as part of their investigation.
