WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 1, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are searching for a driver who hit a semi on Redwood Road early Monday morning then fled the scene.

A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation said the incident occurred on Redwood Road at State Route 201 at approximately 1 a.m.

West Valley City police officials said a semi hauling two trailers was turning eastbound onto State Route 201 when it was struck by a northbound car. The car reportedly ran a red light, officials said.

Approximately 50 gallons of diesel spilled as a result of the crash, and two northbound right lanes and two southbound left lanes were closed, as well as the eastbound entrance ramp to SR-201.

Hazmat crews were dispatched to the scene to safely clean up the spilled diesel, officials said.

The driver of the semi was not injured. It’s not known if the driver that fled the scene was injured.

The scene was cleared in time for the morning rush hour, officials said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any further information is asked to call the WVCPD on 801-840-4000.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
