SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 31, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – First responders are on the scene of a fatal semi-truck rollover accident on I-80 eastbound near mile-marker 102.
According to UHP Lt. Cameron Roden, the eastbound semi lost control while approaching a curve, struck a highway barrier, then overturned.
“The truck was hauling double-trailers loaded with sand and caught fire after the crash. The driver is deceased. No other vehicles were involved in the incident,” Roden said.
Eastbound I-80 is closed, with traffic being diverted onto state Route 201.
The left lane of westbound I-80 is closed due to debris from the rollover, while the right lane remains open.
Cleanup efforts are ongoing.
As of noon, it was estimated road closures will last for at least four hours.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
