HOLLADAY, Utah, July 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man in a stolen car led Unified Police officers on a winding chase through Holladay on Monday afternoon.

Officers got a call at about 3:15 about someone driving erratically.

“Our officers received information that there was a suspicious, maybe DUI driver, in the area of Haven Lane and 2600 East,” said Det. Ken Hansen, of the Unified Police Department.

“They got additional information that the vehicle was stolen. They intercepted the vehicle and chased it into Havenwood Lane, which is off Haven Lane, which is a dead end street.”

The driver turned around the stolen vehicle, and collided with the left rear quarter panel of a patrol car, Hansen said.

“Our officers continued their pursuit, up Haven Lane and up to Hillsden,” Hansen said.

“Hillsden is also a dead end street.”

Officers pursued the driver to the end of that street.

“The suspect then drove the stolen vehicle up through a yard, hit a box truck in front of that home, and went through a yard, where he finally hit a big wooden embankment,” Hansen said. “It brought the vehicle to a stop.”

The man exited the vehicle and ran east.

“Our officers, it took them about a block, but they were able to catch up to him, and they Tased him and took him into custody.”

Hansen said the suspect stopped breathing briefly, so officers gave him CPR and a drug used to treat a heroin overdose, just in case that might have been an issue. Medical crews responded and also treated the suspect, who was revived.

“We strongly suspect there’s drugs involved in this,” Hansen said.

The vehicle appeared to be one stolen out of Davis County, Hansen said. The identity of the suspect was not immediately known since he had multiple identification cards on him. He appeared to be a man of about 30 years, and is white, Hansen said.
