RIVERTON, Utah, March 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are crediting the action of good Samaritans for saving the life of a man trapped inside in a burning car in Riverton early Monday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Ken Malone told Gephardt Daily that officers were called to 12600 S 1300 West at about 12:38 a.m. after a westbound vehicle jumped a median and slammed into a tree.

The car burst into flames, while the driver remained trapped inside.

Other drivers who came upon the scene jumped from their vehicles and managed to pull the man from his car, but not before he was severely burned.

The victim was taken by ground ambulance to the Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah where he is reported in serious condition.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the accident, which also damaged a nearby building when flying debris shattered several windows.

The identity of the injured driver has yet to be released.

Gephardt Daily — the only news crew on the scene in the aftermath of the rescue — will update the story as more information becomes available.
