SOUTH SALT LAKE, July 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Searchers from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office have recovered the body of a 29-year-old drowning victim from Little Dell Reservoir.
According to a Wednesday morning press release, members of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team found the body of Salt Lake City resident Hailey Mason, Tuesday about 9:45 p.m.
“At around 2:00 p.m., bystanders at Little Dell Reservoir called 911 after hearing a woman outside of her kayak cry for help. Despite their attempts to swim out and assist her, she went under the water and did not resurface,” the press release said.
“Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canyon Patrol deputies responded and initiated a call out for the Search and Rescue dive team. They were joined by members of the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and Utah State Park Rangers.”
“Three boats equipped with sonar technology were deployed, leading to the discovery of Ms. Mason. During the search, Ms. Mason’s kayak, life vest, and other belongings were also recovered.”
Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera thanked search crew for their efforts while offering her condolences to Mason’s loved ones. “This outcome is tragic and our hearts are with the family of they mourn this loss.”
The sheriff’s office urged everyone who planned on recreating over the holiday weekend and throughout the summer to be prepared, and to use flotation devices when on the water, and if venturing out alone, “let someone know your plans and expected return time.”
