PARK CITY, Utah, May 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Duchesne man was killed and a woman is in the hospital in critical condition following a crash on state Route 40 near milepost 6.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, the crash occurred at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday when a semi truck hauling double tankers was traveling west on SR-40 near mile post 6.

The semi was in the right-hand lane and had just crested the top of a hill. UHP said the semi didn’t appear to be traveling very fast, but the driver of the semi was distracted by his phone and rear-ended a slower moving 1998 Saturn passenger car.

The impact spun the Saturn into the left lane of travel, where it came to a rest.

The female driver of the Saturn was transported by medical helicopter to the University of Utah Medical Center in critical condition. She is 40 years old and from West Jordan. Her name has not been released.

Landon B. Peatross, 41, of Duchesne, was a passenger in the Saturn. He was transported to Park City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

All of the occupants in both vehicles were wearing their seat belts.
