SPANISH FORK CANYON, UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Both directions of State Route 6 were closed after a westbound dump truck pulling a flatbed trailer drifted off the shoulder and ended up on the railroad tracks late Monday afternoon.

An eastbound minivan became involved in the crash when it was struck by either the dump truck or the front-end loader it was hauling on the trailer.

The incident happened at 5:34 p.m. at Milepost 193, a Utah Highway Patrol news release says.

When the dump truck drifted off to the right shoulder, the driver tried to swerve back, but “the trailer caught the lip of the asphalt and rolled over, coming to rest on the north side of the roadway,” the news release says.

The eastbound minivan, with two occupants, went off the south side of the road when it was struck, and it came to rest upside-down next to the tracks.

The two people from the minivan were transported to the hospital in fair to serious condition.

The dump truck driver had only minor cuts and scratches, the news release says.

Both directions of the highway are closed, and officials will try to run alternating traffic when fire and medical personnel have cleared. However, both lanes will be closed again when wreckers arrive to remove the commercial vehicles and equipment.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information is released.
