EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah, Oct. 9, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 33-year old Eagle Mountain man was booked into jail for child endangerment 15 days after his wife was arrested for child abuse homicide.
The husband and father was taken into custody Tuesday for the alleged child endangerment, a third-degree felony, after his grade school age son was found to have been exposed to marijuana over a long period, discovered after a test of the child’s hair.
The man’s bail was set at $5,000. He is no longer listed among current inmates.
An older daughter was found to have no evidence of marijuana exposure in her hair sample.
The man’s wife “was recently (on Sept. 24) booked into jail for child abuse homicide in the death of their 4-month-old son,” says a statement issued by the Utah County Sheriff‘s Office.
“In the following investigation into that case, investigators learned that (the older son) had THC metabolite in his body. This can happen only after extended exposure to marijuana.”
The children’s mother, 31, was booked for investigation of child abuse homicide, also as a third-degree felony, after her infant son died from severe head trauma, including skull fractures and brain hemorrhages, which his doctors characterized as “unsurvivable.”
The account of events that she provided — that the child fell from a low bed to the floor, then that they both fell, and he fell on top of her chest — were not consistent with injuries he sustained, doctors said. She was ordered held without bail in the Utah County Jail.
As always, the county attorney’s office will determine the charges in each case.
