WEST HAVEN, Utah, May 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The elderly man who was hit and killed in an auto-pedestrian accident Friday night in Weber County has been identified as Harry Green, 82, of West Haven.
The driver fled the scene, and remains at large. No witnesses to the accident have been identified.
Green was walking on 4000 South in West Haven at about 10:45 p.m., through an area with road construction, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. He was struck at about 4350 West.
Just prior, a vehicle passed the man, and occupants were concerned because the man was on such a narrow shoulder.
“A few minutes later, they returned to the area and saw that the male had been hit and was lying just off the road,” said a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. “Deputies responded to the scene where the male was deceased upon arrival.”
Debris left from the suspect vehicle suggests it is a late 1990s to early 2000s Dodge Durango or Dodge Dakota. The vehicle may be silver or gray in color, but that is not certain, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office statement says.
The vehicle will have damage to the front passenger corner near the headlight and possible damage to the windshield. The vehicle was believed to be traveling eastbound when the accident occurred.
The Weber Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information about the incident to call call Weber County Dispatch at 801-394-8221.
