EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah, Nov. 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — An electrician hired to work in an Eagle Mountain home was arrested after police say he secretly took videos of the homeowner’s teen daughter.

Jay Lynn Magnuson, 29, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and is facing three charges of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor and one charge of misdemeanor voyeurism by electronic equipment concealed or disguised.

A probable cause statement released by officials said that deputies were notified Saturday that an electrician that had been contracted to work on a home in Eagle Mountain had “surreptitiously recorded a juvenile female in her bedroom when she was naked.”

The statement said the juvenile told investigators she had just finished taking a shower and was sitting on her bed.

“She then noticed a black iPhone being pushed up through the vent in her bedroom wall,” the statement said. “The phone was pointed in her direction. The juvenile said the phone went up and down numerous times. Each time it was pointed in her direction. The juvenile became very concerned for her safety and she texted her parents, who were not home at the time, asking them to immediately return.”

She informed them that she believed she had been recorded naked by the contractor that was working in the basement, next to her bedroom.

Detectives met with Magnuson and spoke with him regarding the allegations.

“Jay admitted that he was the only contractor at the home at that time,” the statement goes on. “Initially, Jay was deceptive in his answers. He later admitted that he took between five and 10 separate video recordings of the young juvenile female, while she was naked.”

Magnuson also admitted to watching the videos, officials said. He said he had a pornography problem and he admitted to searching and watching pornographic videos of teenagers being secretly recorded. He admitted he had been watching these type of pornographic videos on the day this incident occurred, during his lunch break, the statement said..

“He also stated he knew the bedroom belonged to the female because on the previous day, while working in the home, he put his phone through the vent and recorded the bedroom on three separate occasions,” the statement goes on. “Jay admitted he had noticed a bra on the floor of the bedroom. Jay admitted that he deleted the videos that he recorded of the young juvenile female after he was confronted by his supervisor.”

Bail for Magnuson has been set at $10,000.
