ST. GEORGE, UTAH – October 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – An elementary school in St. George was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a suspect in a hit-and-run took police on a foot chase.

According to St. George police, a call came into dispatchers at 12:54 p.m., on reports of a Toyota Tacoma that had hit a parked car at 400 East 700 South.  Witnesses told officers that despite heavy front-end damage and a popped tire, the suspect drove away from the accident.

Officers were able to follow the fluid trail from the scene to an address off 1000 East. There, a witness told them a male and female had stopped to inspect damage to their truck before asking for directions to the nearest Wal-Mart.

Officers began searching the area near the Washington City Wal-Mart and found a matching vehicle near the Deseret Industries. As officers approached, the male suspect ran, but the female did not and was apprehended on scene.

Due to the proximity to Sandstone Elementary, the school was placed on lockdown while police continued their search for the suspect.

Officers were able to catch up with the suspect at 2654 East Red Cliffs Drive. He was taken into custody without incident.

It was later determined the suspect vehicle was stolen in West Jordan and used in a theft from Discount Pawn that same morning.
