EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Emery County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its officers, who passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to one of our own,” said a Facebook post from Emery County. “Deputy Jeff Weber passed away unexpectedly early this morning from a combination of ongoing medical conditions and a short illness. He was 51 years old.”
Weber began working as a corrections officer in the jail at the Emery County Sheriff’s Office in 1991, the post said. He graduated from Utah Peace Officers and Standards Training Academy in May of 1993.
After graduation, he continued working as a Corrections Officer until a position on the road became available in early 1996. Weber has worked as a patrol deputy since that time. Prior to his employment at ECSO, he worked at Central Utah Correctional Facility.
“At ECSO, Jeff was truly larger than life,” the post said. “On his days off, he could be found in the weight room at the Sheriff’s Office, always focusing on weight lifting and physical fitness. He had a keen knowledge of the law, was always willing to step up and help his co-workers, and was dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Emery County for over 28 years.
“Condolences to the Weber family are welcome on this page. However, the family has requested privacy as they grieve their loss.”
Many people left condolences on the page.
“I’m so sorry about Jeff,” wrote one Facebook user. “He was a good and honorable man. I have great memories of his kindness. It is a terrible loss for the county and his family and friends. He will be missed.”
“He just brought some paperwork to my house a week ago,” said another user. “He was so nice and accommodating and genuinely concerned about my situation. Truly he is one of the good ones. What a terrible loss to our community and his family.”
A third user said: “Godspeed, brother. Thank you for over 28 years of dedicated public service. Rest well.”
ECSO will post funeral details once arrangements have been finalized.
