UTAH, June 3, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — An excessive heat warning has been issued for parts of Utah beginning Thursday.
A tweet from the National Weather Services says the warning applies to parts of the Wasatch Front, West Desert, Lower Washington County and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area, shown in pink on map. The warning is in place Thursday through Saturday for southern Utah and Friday through Saturday morning for northern Utah.
“Dangerously hot temperatures running 15 to 20 degrees above average with little overnight cooling in urban areas,” the tweet said. “Significant increase for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working outdoors or participating in outdoor activities.”
There is also a heat advisory in place for portions of northern Utah west of Wasatch Crest, the Uinta Basin and the central Utah valleys; Sanpete and Sevier, shown in orange on the map. High temperatures will near 100 degrees fahrenheit. The advisory is in place Thursday through Saturday for urban areas and Thursday through Friday night for all other valleys.
“Hot temperatures may cause heat-related illnesses to occur,” the tweet said.
There is also a fire weather watch Friday morning through Sunday evenings for the parts of the map seen below.
Affected Utahns are being asked to follow these fire safety tips:
- Keep vehicles off dry grass and brush.
- Sparks from lawnmowers and power equipment can and do start wildfires.
- Make sure campfires are completely out.
- Properly dispose of cigarettes.
- Check and obey all fire restrictions.
- Target shooting can create sparks that fly.
