Exclusive Video: Planned Parenthood Boss Rips Utah Governor

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – August 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Karrie Galloway, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is blasting Republican Governor Gary Herbert, characterizing his decision to block funding for the women’s healthcare organization as a cynical political ploy, potentially impacting the well-being of tens of thousands of women across the state.

Galloway made the comments Saturday, in an exclusive video interview with Bill Gephardt, just 24 hours after Governor Herbert’s executive order forbidding state agencies from disbursing federal tax dollars to Planned Parenthood. Funding for STD education and prevention were the only exception to the funding blockade.

Governor Herbert released a statement Friday, saying he found recent “allegations against Planned Parenthood deeply troubling.” Those allegations stem from recent videos produced by the anti-abortion group, Center for Medical Progress. The group claims the video are proof Planned Parenthood breaks the law by selling fetal tissue to medical researchers.

Planned Parenthood says there is nothing illegal about the research programs and their organization only accepts payments for the cost of the tissue harvesting. They say the mother’s consent is also required before the tissues can be sold for research.

“It’s politics, Bill. It’s not healthcare. It’s all about Planned Parenthood and the fact that we have made the woman’s lady parts a political football,” Galloway said. “I don’t find medical research disturbing. I don’t find finding a cure for Alzheimer’s, working on M.S., or on immunization, disturbing.”

Utah, now joins Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana in blocking federal dollars earmarked for Planned Parenthood. The federal government says those moves may be illegal.

On Friday, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said Planned Parenthood “does not represent the values of the people of our state and Arkansas is better served by terminating any and all existing contracts with them.”

  1. The title of this is very misleading and inappropriate. She responded to the defunding and politicizing of healthcare with an incredible amount of tact and poise. Stating that she “Rips Utah Governor” is not only unfair, it’s also inaccurate.

  2. I’ve gotten an abortion in Utah.
It wasn’t at planned parenthood! I went there seeking it to be done there, and after many educating classes to make sure I was certain I wanted it, I was send to an entirely different clinic to get the deed done. Planned parenthood does not do abortions!

  3. Everyone love medical research and wants to finds cures but the point is we shouldn’t do it at the cost of an innocent child’s life. It is not right to cut a baby up taking their life and then sell those pieces to medical research. I will take any disease not having a cure found over killing babies

  4. This ass doesn’t realize what he’s cut funding for. Ninety-seven percent of people seen are NOT there for abortions. Planned parenthood does breast cancer exams, cervical cancer screenings, men’s physicals, gives advice on birth control, helps prevent pregnancy so that abortion won’t be needed, teaches and prevents STDs, treats STDs, etc. These nut wad republicans need to educate themselves.

  5. This organization is despicable. There are plenty of other clinics that offer medical services that don’t also abort babies. In fact, there are literally 10x the amount of community health clinics that women can go to that don’t offer abortion services. I don’t care how much good they do; if they are killing the truly innocent, they aren’t worth our tax dollars. She tries to tug on heart strings implying that parting babies can help us cure diseases. Give me a break, if we have to kill babies to cure adults, we are truly lost as a society.

Besides, doesn’t Obama care now offer medical care for all? Why are we spending an additional 1/2 billion a year just for Planned Parenthood?

  6. Yes it is about politics. Planned Parenthood does not need any tax payer money. Tax payer money should never given to any organization that aborts babies or sell their body parts like a Chevy. They do not provide any service that no one else could provide. They are a useless and ineffective program. They also have a history of being a racist group is bent on try to commit genocide against minorities.

  7. It’s not just a woman’s healthcare organization, it is also for men and everyone in between. A correction should be made Gephardts staff.

  8. Wh doesn’t the pro-war, pro-lifers go after the fertilization clinics who destroy embryos all the time? They are mute on that one aren’t they.

  9. Political sheep following along with an unethical organization led by a crazy man who’s in prison for murdering an abortion doctor.

  10. It is my understanding that, Health Care for women, young women and girls, will be covered by obamacare. Therefore, Planned Parenthood is obsolete and should close it’s doors. Put this $300,000 into education. They would do a better job with the money!

  11. I don’t intend any offense, but I don’t understand the big deal with defunding PP. Aren’t most of the services they provide now covered by Obamacare (aka ACA)? Whatever isn’t covered, STD Education and Prevention, are still funded by the state. Are the pro-Planned Parenthood people mad because funding isn’t available for services that can be obtained under ACA? Or are they mad because fetal tissue testing can no longer be performed? I truly don’t understand the anger. How can fetal tissue testing impact a woman’s health?

  12. Planned Parenthood’s Federal funding is not and should not be subject to arbitrary actions by the State government. It is FEDERAL money taken out of FEDERAL taxes and returned to the organization. As such, the STATE of UTAH has absolutely NO POWER to deny the funding to Planned Parenthood. I hope the Feds come in and tell the Governor he has no right to block Federal money from Planned Parenthood, or any other Federal program.
