Explosions, but no injuries in Virgin fire

VIRGIN, Washington County, Utah, June 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple fire crews were able to keep a structure fire that spread contained at under two acres.

The blaze was dispatched at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue said online Wednesday night. “Prior to arrival crews were notified that items were exploding and the fire was spreading into the nearby brush.”

First units arrived on scene within eight minutes and were able to initiate an attack on the fire, the department said.

“Multiple resources arrived on scene shortly afterward and initiated an attack on the brush fire that started as well.”

A total of 12 firefighting units were able to completely extinguish both fires.

The outbuilding involved was a complete loss and in total 1.75 acres burned, according to the press release.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Nine Hurricane fire units were called out to the fire as well as crews from Zion National Park, BLM, Forest Service plus the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
