SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jan. 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) – Names and faces are changing at Salt Lake City Hall as Mayor Jackie Biskupski makes decisions about who will head up major departments.

Three department heads were ousted this week including D.J. Baxter, the executive director of the city’s redevelopment agency; Bill Haight, director of information management services; and Debra Alexander, human resources director.

Biskupski has already replaced Alexander with Julio Garcia. Garcia has been the associate director of Salt Lake County’s Human Resources Department since  2010. Biskupski highlighted Garcia’s “forward thinking” approach to management saying, “Our city employees must feel safe and supported by their managers, and those managers must have the skills to promote an environment of growth and opportunity.”

Replacements for Baxter and Haight have yet to be officially announced.

And, there are some high profile positions still under review including the job of Executive Director of the Salt Lake City International Airport. Late last year, Maureen Riley, the current director, was named 2015 Director of the Year by Airport Revenue News.

Matthew Rojas, spokesman for Biskupski, praised the work of the departing directors and their service to Salt Lake City.  However, he said “there’s no timetable to replace those who have left or to decide the fate of the remaining department heads.”
