SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Firefighters were called to a vehicle fire that started after a branch knocked down some power lines Tuesday morning.

Jim Williams, a firefighter paramedic for Salt Lake City Fire, said the department was dispatched to a call of a vehicle fire threatening a structure in the area of 800 West 1250 South. “When we first arrived, we noticed smoke and flames were showing and we went on a fast attack, got the fire under control within a few minutes, then secured the scene because of the power lines that were still charged down on the ground,” Williams said. The call came in at 11:31 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene by 11:36 a.m.

“The biggest concern was the power lines that were knocked down by a branch, which energized the vehicle, which caused the fire,” Williams said.

Crews remained on scene to keep people away from the power lines until Rocky Mountain Power crews arrived.
