Update: Fire at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden caused by burning candle

OGDEN, Utah, April 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A structure fire at an Ogden church Monday was caused by a burning candle, officials said.

The fire at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 E. 24th St., which crews responded to at approximately 5:20 p.m., has been ruled accidental and unintentional.

Everyone in the building was safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries associated with this fire.

Crews were still on scene at 6:40 p.m., but the fire was out, and they were performing cleanup and overhaul measures.

Ogden Fire Deputy Chief Eric Bauman said the fire was contained to the floor joists below the first floor, and damage is estimated at $10,000.

According to OFD, 17 firefighters responded with three engines, one ladder truck, an ambulance, a rescue, and the battalion chief.
