WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 20, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — What started as a small outside fire Sunday night turned into a major house fire as the flames jumped from bushes in front of the home to the structure itself.

Firefighters were dispatched to the house, in the area of 6000 West and 4000 South, at about 10:15 p.m.

WVCFD Battalion Chief Nick Dodge said the home is not far from the West Valley City Fire station, which enabled crews to arrive quickly, .

Firefighters helped the elderly homeowners safely evacuate.

Dodge said damage to the structure is estimated at $75,000 to $100,000, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation; however, officials suspect it may have been started by fireworks.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.

  1. This is actually off o 6550 West not 6000 west. There is a bit of distance and difference. It’s disappointing that the laws can’t be followed by when it comes to aerial fireworks. This should’ve never happened! Shame on them!! There are specific dates and times for a reason! What if this was YOUR house?
