LAYTON, Utah, July 13, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Layton City Fire Department responded to a shed fire threatening a residence in the early hours of Thursday.

Crews were on the scene within five minutes of the 2:17 a.m. call, according to information from the fire marshal. The fire was contained within three minutes, the fire marshal’s statement said, and only the siding of the residence was burned.

A family of four was in the house, and all escaped without injury. A 12-year-old family member was up late, watching a movie, “and heard popping sounds and saw some flickering,” the report states. “He discovered the fire and alerted his parents.”

Doug Bitton, Layton City Fire Marshal, reported that the damage to the home included electrical wiring. The damage prevented the family from staying in the home. Fire damage is estimated at $9,000.

The cause is still under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious.
