SANDY, Utah, April 22, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews responded to a house fire in the area of Meadowlark Way and 8900 South on Saturday.

Battalion Chief Chris Dawson said the homeowners were on their back patio enjoying the evening when they smelled smoke. At the same time, a neighbor came over and told them their house was on fire.

Dawson said it looked like a fire in the fireplace got outside of the box and started burning in the flue area.

The home was safely evacuated and no one was injured.

Dawson said firefighters had to open an interior wall to get to where the fire was actually burning, and there was also a great deal of water damage.

Dawson estimated damage to the home to be in the $125,000 to $150,000 range.

He said the fire is still under investigation.
