TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, August 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority crews responded to a residential fire early Wednesday and found one unit of a duplex in flames.

UFA Battalion Chief Dustin Dern said the structure, in the area of 1500 W. Murray Taylorsville Rd. (4800 South), is a single-story duplex with a basement. One unit was “well involved” when firefighters arrived shortly after 12:47 a.m.

Dern said crews initiated the attack quickly and got the fire knocked down within about 10 minutes of their arrival.

“It was under control five minutes after that,” he said. The fire never extended to the neighboring unit.

All occupants and pets from both units got out safely.

Twenty-five to 30 firefighters responded.

Dern said the fire started on the main level of the unit, but the exact origin and cause aren’t yet known. Investigators were on scene.

Dern said the damage to the unit was significant and estimated the dollar amount of damage at $40,000.
