WEST JORDAN, Utah, Feb. 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a 39-year-old woman who was arrested for stealing a fire truck from a 7-Eleven in Kearns on Thursday afternoon.

Amber Welker stole Unified Fire Authority Engine 107, according to a Friday morning post on the Unified Police Department’s Twitter page. Welker has been charged with one count of second-degree felony theft and one count of third-degree felony violation of probation or parole.

UPD spokesman Lt. Brian Lohrke said Welker took the fire truck from a 7-Eleven in the vicinity of 6200 S. Cougar Lane (4800 West) and headed westbound on 6200 South.

The fire truck was located just before 5:30 p.m., abandoned in the parking lot of Walgreens at 5586 W. 6200 South. The two locations are one mile apart.

According to a probable cause statement, police obtained surveillance video inside the store of the suspect entering the store, then leaving shortly after changing her clothing.

Police then located Welker walking on the street at 5629 S. Stone Bluff Way.

After being read her Miranda rights, Welker admitted to stealing the fire truck and a cell phone left in the truck. Welker said she left the cell phone in the dumpster area of Walgreens, where it was later found. The clothing she was wearing when she stole the truck was located in the Walgreens bathroom where she said she left it.

Police said Welker did not give a reason for taking the fire truck.
