CEDAR FORT, Utah, Sept. 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The fire chief of a small town west of Eagle Mountain stayed on scene to fight a blaze after he was assaulted Sunday night, police said.
Firefighters with Cedar Fort Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a house fire just before midnight, according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon, spokesman for Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Unified Fire Authority in Eagle Mountain also responded to assist.
“After arriving at the scene, a man reportedly assaulted the Cedar Fort fire chief,” said Cannon. “He was pushed or shoved to the ground. There is no indication of why at this point, but it was a busy situation and emotions were running high.”
The firefighters then called for assistance from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
“A responding deputy found two men who were intoxicated. The deputy temporarily detained both men while firefighters and investigators got the fire under control.”
Cannon said nobody involved in the incident was injured, and the fire chief remained at the scene to complete his work. The house was a total loss.
Both men were later released but the investigation remains active. Charges are likely to be filed once the fire investigation is complete.
