CEDAR CITY, Utah, Feb. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Five people were sent to the hospital after a single-vehicle rollover Saturday afternoon on I-15 near Cedar City.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Bambi Baie said the accident happened just after 2 p.m. when a car traveling on the interstate blew a tire, rolled off the roadway and burst into flames.
“All the passengers were stuck in the car and unable to free themselves,” Baie said. “They were traveling in a caravan with family members behind them, who witnessed the accident.”
Baie said those family members immediately responded, broke open the doors, and were able pull their relatives to safety before the car was fully engulfed.
Four of the five victims, including a 1-year-old child, were transported to Cedar City Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
“One of the women involved broke her arm and fractured her neck,” Baie said. “She was taken from Cedar City Hospital to Dixie Medical Center in St. George to be treated.”
Baie said it appears everyone in the car that rolled was restrained, but due to the damage from the fire, she could not confirm that.
UHP, Iron County Sheriff deputies, Gold Cross Ambulance, Cedar City Fire Department and Cedar City Police all responded and helped assist with the accident.
