CARBON COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 3, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — Flooding has damaged U.S. 6 and closed the highway in both directions between Helper and Soldier Summit until Monday afternoon, officials said.
The Carbon County Sheriff Office‘s announced the closure about 3:30 p.m. Sunday due to flooding and road damage in Carbon County’s Price Canyon.
“Emma Park is not a recommended alternate route due to the flooding hazard and road conditions,” the sheriff’s office statement advised. “Hwy 191 if you are traveling from Helper or State Road 89 at Thistle if you are traveling from Utah County are recommended alternate routes.”
Utah Department of Transportation crews are working to reopen the highway by early Monday afternoon, officials said. Plans to reopen include traveling on gravel at a reduced speed limit of 25 mph, according to UDOT.
“Once the road is reopened our team will continue work to replace the road and complete culvert construction,” UDOT said on social media. “Please plan extra time as you travel Monday on US-6.”
UDOT also reported closures Sunday night on U.S. 191 in Indian Canyon between Duchesne and Price due to several mudslides.
“One mudslide is 5 feet deep. We really appreciate the hard work of our crews this holiday weekend,” UDOT said in another social media post.
