WASATCH COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Formal charges have been filed against a man accused of critically injuring a pregnant woman and her husband in Wasatch County by crashing into their silver Audi, head-on, with a stolen Ford Explorer.

Tyson Uresti, 22, has been charged in 4th District Court with:

  • Receiving or transfer of a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony
  • Failure to remain at an accident involving injury, a class A misdemeanor
  • Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
  • No driver’s license/expired, an infraction
  • Failure to operate within a single lane, an infraction

Trooper Levi Anderson, Utah Highway Patrol, wrote the probable cause statement in the case, the result of an accident that happened early Saturday morning about 13 miles southeast of Heber City on State Route 40.

“As I arrived on scene there were two occupants in the other vehicle that was involved in the accident,” the statement says. “One occupant was air-lifted from the scene and the other occupant was transported by ambulance. As I was investigating the accident Trooper Blair and two Wasatch County deputies saw an individual that matched the description of the driver that had fled from the scene of the accident.

“That individual was identified as Tyson Uresti, who confirmed that he was involved in the accident and sustained serious injuries. He sustained injuries that would indicate that he would have been driving the vehicle.”

Uresti was transported to the Heber Valley Medical Center where he was checked and released by medical staff. Uresti told troopers he was driving about 75 to 80 mph on a road with a 60 mph limit.

Troopers learned that the black Ford Exploer driven by Uresti had been reported stolen out of Duchesne County.

Uresti was initially booked into the Wasatch County jail on a warrant for his arrest issued out of Provo.

A GoFundMe account that says it was set up for the critically injured couple can be found at this link. (Gephardt Daily cannot ensure money donated to any GoFundMe account will be used to benefit stated recipients.)

According to court records, Uresti has multiple criminal cases pending stemming from incidents alleged to have happen this year. The list includes:

  • Burglary, theft and criminal mischief on Feb. 26 in the Provo District
  • Sexual battery on May 7 in American Fork
  • Theft by receiving stolen property on May 13 in the Manti District

Three additional cases filed prior to 2018 were dismissed with or without prejudice.
