Former Daybell friend shares recorded call about location of missing children, later found dead

ST. ANTHONY, Idaho, Aug. 4, 2020 (East Idaho News/Gephardt Daily) — A phone call between Melanie Gibb and former friends Chad Vallow and Lori Vallow Daybell was played in the Idaho courtroom where Chad Daybell is having his preliminary hearing.

According to an article by the East Idaho News, Gibb, who has said she recorded the phone call on Dec. 8, 2019, questioned Lori Vallow Daybell, asking Lori why she she lied to police in saying missing 7-year-old son Joshua “J.J.” Vallow was with Gibb.

Chad is charged with two felony counts of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence, and two felony counts of destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence. He was arrested June 9 after the remains of J.J. and Lori’s daughter, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, were found buried on Chad’s property on June 8 of this year.

J.J. and Tylee were last seen alive on Sept. 28, 2019. J.J.’s body was found wrapped in duct tape, and Tylee had been dismembered, according to previous police statements.

In the phone conversation, Lori accuses Gibb of going “dark,” or losing her spiritual connection with God, after Gibb questions her about the location of the children.

At one point, Lori assures Gibb that J.J. is safe.

“I know exactly where he is,” Lori says. “He’s perfectly fine and safe.”

Eventually, Gibb tells Lori she is very concerned about their behavior, before the phone call abruptly ends.
