Former judge Christine Decker, wife of TV reporter Rod Decker, dies after cancer battle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Former judge Christine Decker, wife of longtime Utah TV reporter Rod Decker, passed away Tuesday after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.

Decker had served as a juvenile court judge in Salt Lake County’s Third Judicial District.  She was first appointed to the position in August 2004 by Governor Olene Walker.

Decker was retained in 2014 for a term with 77 percent of the vote. Her term would have expired on January 3, 2021, but Decker retired from the court in February 2015 due to her diagnosis.

Decker was a longtime fixture in Utah’s judicial circles.

She worked as a deputy county attorney in Salt Lake County from 1977 to 1978. In 1979 she became a bail commissioner for Salt Lake City.

Decker worked in private practice from 1994 to 1997, and was guardian ad litem for the Third District Juvenile Court from 1997 to 2002.

She also worked as an assistant attorney general in the child protection division.
