FARMINGTON, Utah, Jan. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Davis County man was sentenced to prison today after pleading guilty to multiple crimes against children he was hired to teach at a Clearfield elementary school.

Mark Glenton Bedel, 63, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted aggravated sexual abuse, a first-degree felony. Dismissed in a plea deal were six counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, also a first-degree felony.

Bedel will spend at least six years in the Utah State Prison, a judge determined on Friday.

On Sept. 27, 2017, Bedel was hired as a substitute teacher at Wasatch Elementary School.

According to a probable cause statement, Bedel was teaching that day at Wasatch Elementary School, and allegedly inappropriately touched six boys between the ages of 7 and 9.

In the court document, each child described in detail how the man they knew as “Mr. Mark” attempted fondle them, reaching beneath their clothing and touching them in a sexual manner.

Bedel was sentenced to serve two indeterminate terms of at least three years, to run consecutively, court documents say.
