Former Sunset mayor and wife die in house fire

SUNSET, Utah, Feb. 11, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An elderly couple was killed in a house fire in Sunset on Friday afternoon.

The deceased couple has been identified as former Sunset mayor John Nicholas, 94, and his wife, Nada Nicholas, 93. They had been married 74 years and sweethearts since junior high school, family members said.

Reports indicate that crews were called to the fire in the area of 140 W. 1900 North at approximately 1:30 p.m., and that a married couple inside was not able to escape the flames and smoke.

The home was engulfed when firefighters arrived. Officials said it was not immediately clear how the fire began.

Sunset is at the northern end of Davis County.
