CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Former Utah State University football player Torrey Green has been found guilty of five counts of rape, in addition to other felony charges.

The jury deliberated Thursday and Friday, for about eight hours each day, after hearing almost two weeks of testimony in the high-profile Utah case.

The former USU linebacker, an undrafted free agent who had been practicing with the Atlanta Falcons, was released from Falcons training camp in August, after Falcons’ management learned that Cache County officials were investigating multiple allegations of sexual assault during Green’s USU career.

Green, 23, was arrested in October and held in jail in Cache County. Eight original cases were screened. On Oct. 6, five cases were filed and three were declined, based on insufficient evidence or the accuser’s decision not to prosecute.

Following the filing of charges on Oct. 6, six additional complaints were received, and two were declined.

In November, two additional sexual assault charges were filed against Green based on reports by two alleged victims, the Cache County Attorney’s Office said at the time.

Green proclaimed his innocence throughout, saying the sex was consensual.

He faced a total of 11 felony charges relating to the allegations of six women who said Green sexually abused them when he was a student at USU in Logan. The women said the assaults occurred between 2013 and 2015.

The Utah Statesman, USU’s student-produced newspaper, tweeted Friday that Green was found guilty of five counts of rape, one count of forcible sexual abuse, one count of object rape, and one count of sexual battery. He was found not guilty of one count of forcible sexual abuse, one count of object rape and one count of aggravated kidnapping.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 27.
