LOGAN, Utah, Dec. 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A judge has denied bail to former Utah State University linebacker Torrey Green, charged with assaulting seven women.

The former football player was waived by the Atlanta Falcons in August after team officials learned of the sexual assault allegations.

Green, 23, was arrested in October and is currently being held in jail in Cache County. The bail hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon in the First District Court.

Two additional sexual assault charges filed against Green by the Attorney’s Office last month were based on reports by two alleged victims, according to a news release from Cache County Attorney’s Office.

Earlier this year, eight original cases were screened. On Oct. 6, five cases were filed on and three were declined based on insufficient evidence or the accuser’s decision not to prosecute.

Following the filing of charges on Oct. 6, six additional complaints were received. Of these, two cases were the ones filed in November, two are still under investigation, and two were declined based on insufficient evidence or the accuser’s decision not to prosecute.

“The County Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting victims of sexual assault and assisting them through the healing process,” said James Swink, Cache County Attorney.

“We encourage the reporting of sexual assault to law enforcement, but respect the right of victims to decide whether or not to go forward with prosecution. When sufficient evidence exists to pursue prosecution, the County Attorney’s offices uses all available resources to hold the perpetrators accountable.”

A preliminary hearing for Green is scheduled for March.
