WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Four juveniles are in custody after an armed robbery and high speed chase in West Valley City and Murray early Friday morning, police said.
West Valley police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku said in a news release that a male called 911 at about 3:15 a.m. reporting he was just robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store at 3180 S. 5600 West.
“The victim reported he ran away from the suspect, but watched the suspect jump into a dark colored SUV before leaving the parking lot,” said Vainuku.
“A West Valley City Police Department sergeant observed a dark colored GMC Envoy driving erratically near 4400 W. 3100 South, and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit resulted.”
Vainuku said multiple officers held intersections as the vehicle pursuit went from 4400 W. 3500 South to the termination location at 5400 South underneath I-15. The vehicle reached speeds of up to 85 mph.
A Unified Police Department officer spiked the vehicle’s tires near 5400 S. 1300 West. As the vehicle drove under the I-15 overpass, the driver went over the median, striking a pole and two large boulders.
The vehicle was disabled, and all four suspects fled on foot.
Officers pursued the suspects, who all fled in different directions, and safely captured all four of them. No one was hurt.
The vehicle which was recovered was listed as stolen out of Sandy. Four handguns, which were taken in home burglaries that occurred in Sandy earlier in the evening, were located in the vehicle and in a backpack.
All of the suspects are juveniles. They are a 17-year-old male driver, a 17-year-old male, a 15 year-old-male and a 16-year-old female.
All of the suspects have been booked into juvenile detention under charges of aggravated robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing on foot, resisting arrest, four counts of possession of a stolen gun, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony evading for the driver.
