EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah, July 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old girl who was hit by a car Friday on Wycliffe Way in Eagle Mountain has died of her injuries.
According to a news release from Sgt. Spencer Cannon, public information officer for Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the girl, Charlie C. Nielson, was flown by LifeFlight to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition on life support. On Saturday, her family made the decision to remove life support, and the child died shortly before 7 p.m.
The accident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. Friday. The little girl was playing in a park across the street from her home when a 23-year-old Eagle Mountain woman was driving south on Wycliffe Way.
The release states: “The driver stopped to let another child cross the street in front of her. At about that time the girl’s mother, standing in the doorway of her home about 50 feet away, called to her daughter, who then started to cross the street.
“The driver of the Audi SUV began to drive again as the girl stepped out from behind another parked car. The driver of the Audi could not see the girl and ran over the child.”
Cannon said in the release that there was a speed bump just after the spot where the girl was run over, and it took a moment for the driver to realize she had hit a child. The driver immediately called 911. Two deputies arrived in less than a minute, followed by Unified Fire Authority paramedics. After they treated the child, she was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.
According to the release: “After reviewing video from a nearby security system Deputies determined that the driver was not speeding. Investigators also believe she was not distracted and there is no evidence of impairment. The driver submitted to a blood test and has given her phone to investigators for evaluation.”
