PROVO, Utah, June 11, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 6-year-old girl was killed and two other people are in critical condition after being hit by a car in Provo Saturday afternoon.

A friend of the family has set up a GoFundMe page for Iris Arnold, the little girl who died, stating that she was just leaving a friend’s birthday party when she and her grandpa and a cousin were struck by the vehicle.

The family issued a statement late Sunday, saying, “The Arnold Family appreciates the support and concern for them and are asking for all to show the same courtesy and love for the young man that caused the accident. While their hearts are broken, they also ache for the young man involved. They miss their sweet Iris and are praying for her grandfather and cousin. She was an intelligent, vibrant and loving little girl.”

The family has asked not to be disturbed during this time of mourning.

Officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of West Center Street at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, the Provo Police Department said in a news release.

“It was reported that a vehicle, occupied by one male, was driving west on Center Street, drifted off the road, and struck a parked vehicle,” the news release said. “Three individuals were standing by the parked vehicle when it was struck.”

The 6-year-old girl was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, where she subsequently passed away. Her grandfather and a cousin were taken by ambulance to Utah Valley Hospital in critical condition.

Provo police have not said if there were contributing factors to the crash, such as distracted driving.
