WEST JORDAN, Utah, July 27, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — GoFundMe accounts have been set up to assist with medical and funeral expenses for a 36-year-old mother who was killed in a plane crash in West Jordan Saturday, as well as a 72-year-old woman critically injured when the aircraft hit her home.
A total of three people were killed and three others were injured in the crash, which occurred shortly after the plane took off from South Valley Regional Airport at about 1:39 p.m., while the 36-year-old woman’s 12-year-old daughter walked away from the wreckage with only minor injuries.
Three houses were damaged in the crash, one of which was engulfed in flames.
Sunday morning West Jordan Police Department identified the deceased as Lee Wyckoff, 43, the pilot, as well as Milda Shibonis, 36, and Coral Wyckoff, 9 months.
Of the three other people on the plane, Rebecca Wyckoff, 36, is in critical condition, Cody Mitchell, 2, is in critical condition with burns on his legs and arms, and Veda Sheperd, 12, who was treated at a local hospital and released.
The GoFundMe account set up to benefit Shibonis and her daughter says:
Our beautiful, vivacious Milda Shibonis was killed in a plane crash on July 25. Her daughter, Veda, survived the crash in what can only be called a miracle.
Milda was an incredible family law and personal injury attorney. She made an instant impression on colleagues and lifelong friends at every court appearance, mediation, and phone call. Her adventurous and resilient spirit gave her the kind of stories that no one can ever forget — and there were so many stories.
So many people have reached out wanting to help in some way so this fund is intended to give everyone that opportunity. As you can imagine, there are so many unexpected expenses that come with such tragedy.
Any funds raised above the family’s need will be set aside for Veda’s future.
Mary Quintana, 72, was critically injured when her house was set ablaze. West Jordan Police Department Sgt. J.C. Holt confirmed Quintata’s death to Gephardt Daily at 1:15 p.m. Monday.
The GoFundMe account set up by Quintana’s friends before she died says:
Mary Quintana is the West Jordan homeowner, whose life was changed as a small aircraft crashed into her home. Mary was at home during the incident and suffered burns and is recovering at the University of Utah hospital at this time.
We are all praying for our dearest friend Maria (Mary) Quintana and all her family and friends. She is our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and dearest friend. Mary has given all of us her love and support throughout all our lives. Lifted all of our souls with her love and touched our hearts. This terrible tragedy is a devastating blow and seems so surreal. We are all trying to process this in some way. How could this be… she is in critical condition at the University of Utah hospital, at the best burn center in the state of Utah.
Her little home is gone that she is so proud of. She has lost everything she has worked so hard for including her home, vehicle and all of her belongings. It is all gone…. just gone. Some of us call Mary our little “Marygold” because she is as good as gold. Mary would say that a good person is true! true! As good as it gets! We are all praying for you Mary with all the strength in our hearts.
Our Mary is as tough as they come; strong, one tough little cookie! As she would say… her heart is golden. Her spirit is lifting and contagious. We all must be strong for her, support her and her family in every way that we can help with all our love. Please give Mary and her family the strength and support at this time.
Mary and her family and friends would like to express all of our condolences to the families of lives lost during this tragedy. We know Mary would want to give her sympathies if she possibly could. We would like to extend our gratitude towards Mary’s neighbors and first responders of the West Jordan Fire department and several other agencies that came to aid in the time of need. Thank you!
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident. It’s not clear at this early stage what caused the plane to crash.
