SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — About three dozen firefighters responded to the scene of a grass fire that ended up burning parts of two homes on the northwest side of Capitol Hill.
Salt Lake City Fire crews were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Audra Sorensen, SLCFD spokeswoman, said the first report was of a couple smoldering bushes.
“So we investigated it as a brush fire,” Sorensen said of the flames, at about 700 North and 200 West.
“It was a small outdoor fire that grew quickly,” she said. “It was initially about an acre, and there were also two homes that were affected by the fire.”
The extent of the damage to the houses was not initially known, although Sorensen did say one suffered significantly more damage than the other.
The two houses were vacant, and neighbors said the owners had been trying to sell them. Several people living nearby were evacuated while the fire was still spreading, but have since been allowed back into their homes.
No one was injured in the fire, Sorensen said.
The fire trucks and equipment may be in place during the investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
