SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City fire crews responded to a first-alarm grease fire that began Sunday night in a kitchen downtown.
Crews were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. to the fire at Seven65 Lofts, 765 E. 400 South, according to Capt. Mark Bednarik, Salt Lake City Fire Department.
Bednarik said one unit in the complex, which is made up of separate buildings with four to six units per building, was heavily damaged. The fire in caused smoke damage to an adjoining unit, rendering both uninhabitable.
Bednarik said the fire started in a kitchen and was thought to have been ignited by grease, but the exact cause is under investigation. Crews had the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
One occupant of the lofts was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, but was not transported to hospital.
A cat was also rescued and was not injured.
