LEHI, UTAH – August 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A charity truck show that is held every year at Electric Park at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi will be happening today and tomorrow.
Truck drivers, vendors and sponsors come from across the country to help support The Great Salt Lake Truck Show, which funds the Kidney Kamp for Kids.
Every year, donations enable more than 200 children who have kidney failure, are on dialysis, or are awaiting a transplant to attend a camping experience in the Utah mountains.
Chairman of the committee Jeff England said they have raised close to $1 million for the National Kidney Foundation of Utah and Idaho in the 26 years since the show began. “It’s for young kids who have kidney issues such as kidney failure,” he said “They don’t get a chance to have a camping experience because they have to stay close to medical facilities, dialysis, clinics, doctors and so on.
“In early September, they go up to Sundance and have all kinds of activities, just an outdoor experience for them, and the doctors go up there too so they can watch out for them.”
The event started as a way to showcase trucks, and has grown from there. “We started this event as a way to show off the trucks, and there’s a lot of fancy equipment here,” England said. “We were able to hook up with the kidney foundation and they gave us some real meaning, where we feel like we are doing some good.”
“You don’t realize how many people there are that either have some kidney problems or know someone that has kidney issues and so most people have a connection that makes people feel like they want to take part.”
Bob Russell’s company is one of the sponsors of the show. “It’s a great charity and they bring a lot of great people here,” he said. “It’s phenomenal; I know they have made a huge impact.”
