OGDEN, Utah, July 1, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of an Ogden soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
“Sgt. 1st Class. Elliott J. Robbins, 31, died June 30, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related incident,” said a news release from the U.S. Department of Defense. “The incident is under investigation.”
Robbins was assigned to D Company, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado, the news release said.
In remembrance of Robbins, the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Utah will be lowered to half-staff on the day of the funeral.
Robbins was a Green Beret medical sergeant on his third tour of duty and had received several awards for his combat tours, officials said.
The cause of death was not released and an investigation is ongoing, Pentagon officials said.
“A skilled soldier with three combat deployments, Robbins will always be remembered,” said Col. Lawrence G. Ferguson, 10th Group commander, in a statement shared by the Army Times.
“We mourn the tragic passing of Sgt. 1st Class Elliott Robbins. The 10th Special Forces Group has paid a heavy toll in recent days. While we mourn, we will support Sgt. 1st Class Robbins’ Family and honor his service.”
Utah’s Governor Gary Herbert also released the following statement:
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Sergeant 1st Class Elliott J. Robbins this morning. I am grateful to him for the service he gave his country. Jeanette and I extend our sincere condolences to his parents, his wife and son at this difficult time. Our hearts and prayers are with them.”
The Green Beret Foundation also posted a statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with SFC Robbins’s family and teammates during this difficult time. De Oppresso Liber.”
