PINEVIEW RESERVOIR, Utah, Aug. 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Health officials have issued an E. coli warning for an area of the Pineview Reservoir at the top of Ogden Canyon.
The Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the Weber-Morgan Health Department Friday shared the results online from sampling by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

“BE CAREFUL,” the DEQ said. “E. coli counts taken from the water near the Middle Inlet Picnic Area of Pineview are above Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling suggests that there is a high likelihood that harmful bacteria and/or viruses are present in the water. Getting this water in your mouth may make humans sick.”
Escherichia coli (or E. coli for short) is used to measure how likely it is that waterborne pathogens are in recreational water, the DEQ said. People are at risk for infection when they swallow water with high levels of E. coli or eat food after exposure without washing their hands.
Waterborne pathogens are bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can make people sick. These waterborne pathogens can cause diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, fever, and rashes.
