Update: 3 killed in Heber City crash identified

HEBER CITY, Feb. 15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) —  The Utah Highway Patrol has released the names of the three people who died Tuesday in a head-on collision in Heber City.

The deceased are:

  • Miguel J. Huitron, 27, from Salt Lake City, the driver of a blue Honda Civic that drifted across the center line and into oncoming traffic
  • Cindy A. Cruz, 27, from West Jordan, a passenger in the Honda, and
  • Christina L. Macinauskas, 29, of Heber City, the driver of a white KIA Rio struck by the Honda

Two other people were transported to area hospitals. A male passenger in the KIA was in serious condition, and a female Honda passenger was was in extremely critical condition. The names of the survivors have not been released.

The collision happened at about 8:16 a.m. Tuesday when the Honda drifted out of its lane on U.S. 40, north of Heber City, at mile marker 14.

Both directions of Highway 40 were closed for about four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared. Investigators on Tuesday said both cars are believed to have been exceeding the 50 mph speed limit by 10 to 15 mph.

According to information released Wednesday by the Utah Highway Patrol, impairment is also being considered as a factor in the crash.
