HERRIMAN, Utah, May 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Herriman teen who was stabbed “all the way through” with a sword Saturday morning has been upgraded from extremely critical to stable condition, and he is expected to recover.

The suspected attacker and the victim, both 17-year-old boys, have been described as best friends. The suspect was at a sleepover at the victim’s house early Saturday morning when the stabbing took place.

The victim was stabbed in the abdomen, and the sword went “all the way through,” according to Lt. Lex Bell, of the Unified Police Department.

Bell said Sunday evening that the victim, who was flowed by medical helicopter to the Intermountain Medical Center, is expected to survive.

The suspect is also hospitalized, but for evaluation rather than for injuries. Bell said the suspect has not yet been charged due to his hospitalizations.

In addition, the results are not yet in on blood tests to determine whether the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The 911 call to the home, near 7000 West and Long Ridge Drive, came in at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Bell said on Saturday that the victim, who collects knives and swords, was lying on the bed when he was stabbed. Bell was not sure if the victim had been awake or asleep.

“The father heard something, ran upstairs, and the suspect was trying to get another weapon to stab the victim with,” Bell said on Saturday.

The suspect continued to fight with the victim’s father, while the victim’s mother called 911, Bell said. The officer who responded to the scene deployed a Taser, but it had little to no effect on the suspect, which is highly unusual, Bell added.

The crews from Unified Fire Authority Station 123 who responded to the scene were initially waiting outside for clearance to enter the residence. However, upon hearing an officer in distress, they went inside and together they successfully subdued the suspect.

The names of the teens have not been released, and probably won’t due to their ages. The charges to be filed will depend on the findings of the investigation, Bell said, but aggravated assault is one possibility.

  1. Bath Salts? Swords are popular with youths due to Game of Thrones among others. The fact a taser didn’t effect him tells me he was high on something.

  2. Aggregated assault? Umm he’s 17. Charge him with attempted murder. That’s what happened. I grew up in herriman. There is a psychological sickness on teenagers there.
It is bc the parents are all brainwashed by the system which teaches hate and in the same breathe proclaims innocence.
Spoon fed rich kids who can’t tell the difference between life and TV bc they’ve never experienced shit. Explains why he will only attack his “best” friend in his sleep.
What kind of prepubescent weirdos have sleepovers at 17 still anyway
